Part Two: Breaking down Stauch’s Letter To The Judge [DOCS]

Letecia Stauch is currently being held in the El Paso County Jail awaiting the murder trial of her step-son Gannon Stauch.  She has chosen to represent herself.  On February 21, 2021, she wrote a letter to Judge Werner claiming that in 2016 she was diagnosed with something for which she received treatment and was later allowed to medically resign from the school district due to her ongoing reality breaks.  We’ll touch on the diagnosis later. But first, let’s look at her time in South Carolina in the years leading up to 2016.

Tecia’s recent claims in the letter to the Judge that the school district allowed her to resign appear to be false.

The WTAF team has been covering Gannon’s case since the first week of his disappearance and we dug into Letecia’s history.  We discussed some noteworthy events about her past in the WTAF Facebook group Gannon Stauch Case Discussion and shared some relevant court documents.

The following court documents uncovered by the WTAF team give a fairly thorough timeline of events. Tecia began working for Horry County School District in 2010.  In the Fall of 2013, Tecia was placed on conduct suspension and/or administrative leave as a result of allegations of misconduct.  After this, it appears she transferred to Marion County School District.

In the Fall of 2015, Tecia was notified by the Marion County School District that her employment was terminated because she had abandoned her position.

On April 20, 2016, Tecia filed an employment discrimination suit against Horry County School District.  This suit came after she had made allegations of sexual harassment by the assistant principle, asserting that the incidents occurred between 2012 – 2015.

Letecia claimed that on numerous occasions she was subjected to inappropriate sexual advances, comments, and gestures by her assistant principle, who was also her evaluation team leader.  The documents outline her accusations of him stalking her, coming to her house intoxicated and passing out on her couch, making comments to her about earning a reward for all the things he’d done for her, that he wished he “could get up in” her dress and that she needed to quit being so “stingy,” among other things.

The case was dismissed without prejudice in August 2017.  The details of the outcome are unclear but this could indicate that Tecia withdrew the suit, or it was not in her favor. The term without prejudice means that the Petitioner can try again in the future.  We have not uncovered any subsequent court filings since it was dismissed. On May 11, 2016, the South Carolina Board of Education suspended Tecia’s Educator Certificate due to evidence that she breached her contract by engaging in unprofessional conduct, willfully neglecting her duty, and failing to comply with the provisions of her contract.  Notice the overlap in time and events within the employment discrimination suit against the Horry County School District and the suspension.

On July 1, 2016, while her South Carolina license was suspended, she obtained a teaching certificate in North Carolina.  Not much has been uncovered about her time there.  We do know that she and Al Stauch had moved to Alaska sometime around 2018 and there are rumors that Letecia had some issues with military personnel there.  Because we don’t have the verifiable evidence surrounding these allegations, we cannot confirm them as fact, but it is said that she made similar sexual harassment claims while they were in Alaska.

Letecia and Al Stauch moved to Colorado Springs, CO in January 2019.  On March 28, 2019, her Colorado teaching certificate became effective.

On January 24, 2020, just three days before Gannon went missing, the Mountain Ridge Middle School fired her.  District spokeswoman Allison Cortez stated, “Academy District 20 rescinded her employment offer after finding inconsistencies in her employment application.”  Tecia had only participated in three days of orientation prior to her employment being rescinded.  It has been widely discussed whether this employment issue contributed to Tecia’s mindset at the time of Gannon’s disappearance and murder.

Now, back to her claim in the letter to Judge Werner of being diagnosed with a mental disorder or condition.  A YouTuber by the name of “KIT” has a few YouTube videos of audio recorded phone calls that she has had with Letecia from jail. In one of the recordings of a phone call from February 2021, Tecia states that she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2015 and then later diagnosed with schizophrenia in 2016.  Those years are in the same timeframe when her teaching license was suspended and her employment discrimination suit occurred. In this same audio, the woman and Tecia speak about Tecia writing letters in the name of Janelle.  It appears they are commenting about how Tecia has multiple personalities, or at least one alternate personality named Janelle.
